Amare Moina is a traditional lullaby from the state of Assam in northeastern India. Assamese music has a rich heritage of lullabies, which are called Nisukòni Git. They reflect the folk cultural life of the Assamese people in the stories they tell. Amare Moina is one of the most popular lullabies in Assamese.
Amare moina xubo e, | The little one sleeps, |
Barite bogori rubo e, | While they plant a jujube tree. |
Barire bogori poki xori goley, | When the jujube berry is ripe and falls, |
Moinai butoli khabo. | It will be sweet and the little one can eat it. |
Although written for piano duet, the parts can be split up among more players.
Amare moina uses the pentatonic scale in F (F-G-A-C-D) with the harmony alternating between the relative keys F major and D minor.
Both parts contain several position shifts so plan your moves carefully and be sure to observe the indicated fingerings.
